In Waldorf education, painting is not just a skill—it's a soul-enriching process. Rooted in Rudolf Steiner’s view of child development, painting supports the growing human being through color experience, rhythm, and imagination. Each stage aligns with the developmental needs of the child:
- Early grades (1–3): Experiencing color as living quality, not object. Emphasis is on mood and inner experience through wet-on-wet painting.
- Middle grades (4–5): Observation and representation develop. Children begin to externalize their vision, moving from pure feeling into form.
- Upper grades (6–8): Realism, technique, and individual style evolve. Students practice seeing the world with growing precision and inward reflection.
